Tinto de Verano Recipe | Five Senses Palate

Tinto de Verano or Summer Red Wine is a cocktail served during the warm months in Spain. If you are a wine lover like myself this is the perfect summer drink. When I visited Spain, even thou it wasn’t too warm yet (May), I savored few of these summer cocktails.

This is a super easy drink with only three ingredients, plus ice. It is light and refreshing! I recommend that you use a young red wine since you won’t be able to taste the tannins or richness of the wine, you wouldn’t want to waste a reserve, grand reserve or anything too expensive. It’s no secret that I love my reds but one of my very favorites is Tempranillo, which also happens to be a Spanish grape. After taking the first sip of my Tinto de Verano I go back in time and see myself walking the streets of Madrid with a big smile in my face. What a great experience that was and how much I enjoyed it!

Tinto de Verano is equal parts of wine and lemon-lime soda (I used Sierra Mist), garnished with lemon. Unlike sangria, this cocktail can be made one glass at a time. It’s meant to be made and serve. An easy alternative to enjoy more time outside. If you are serving a crowd you may want to mix the entire bottle all at once. I hope you get inspired to try this summer cocktail, whether you make it at home or make it for your friends at your next summer party. Have FUN!
