About me

Hi, I am Sujhey Beisser. Welcome to my food blog! Thank you for taking the time to read me. I want to share here food experiences, recipes, stories, travels and anything food related.

I was born in Venezuela and moved to Madison, Wisconsin in 2001. Cooking has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I grew up watching my mother, grandmother and aunts in the kitchen. They taught me how to cook and I carry on their passion in the kitchen.  I have been cooking for my family and friends since I was very young. The kitchen is the heart of our house. I enjoy food in any way, shape or form. I love dining out and traveling; culturing my palate with all sorts of flavors, bringing home new recipes and in most cases, new spices.

Because I grew up cooking with fresh ingredients from the market or just picked in our own backyard, I am very passionate about eating local foods. I like to support local farms, chefs and businesses. I choose to support the farm-to-table concept both when eating out and when cooking a meal at home for my family.  I want to teach my kids to appreciate food in all of its expression, including where it comes from and how it is prepared.

About Five Senses Palate

Why start a blog? I came to realize that my passion for food is what defines me. I don’t remember when I was able to define my food obsession as a passion, but I wanted to do something with it. That’s how this blog was born.

I am not a professional writer nor am I a professional food critic. Any reviews posted here are based on my own experience, and there are no strings attached.

I’d like to share some family recipes and some of my own; I also get inspiration from TV shows, books, magazines and other bloggers. I will always disclose where a recipe comes from, and I will only post recipes that I have recreated in my own kitchen. There is a lot of trial and error in cooking, I have made recipes that turned out terribly wrong. You won’t find those in this blog; unless I was able to overcome it; like my upside down pineapple cake recipe that came about after many cakes were made.

I am glad you landed on this site. I hope you find great inspiration here to start cooking and serving delicious homemade dishes to your family and friends! If you do, don’t be shy and share your pictures and thoughts on my Facebook Page or tag me on Instagram. I’d love to hear from you.

About the pictures

Even though I have no professional training I enjoy learning how to improve my photography skills (that were pretty much non-existent when I started blogging). All the pictures posted in this blog are my own unless otherwise disclosed. Please respect my work. If you would like to use any of my images contact me by filling the contact form on the last tab of the menu or email me directly at Sujhey(@)fivesensespalate.com
